Yemeni Foreign Ministry Discuss with ICRC arrangements Prisoners Exchange

On Sunday, the Yemeni government affirmed its keenness to abide by the provisions of the recent prisoner and detainee exchange agreement, during which the exchange of 1081 prisoners from various parties is expected to take place in Yemen.

This came during a meeting between the Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Al-Hadhrami, and the representative of ICRC in Yemen Kedir Awol Omar
ICRC is the body that will transfer detainees and released prisoners and hand them over to the other party.

The Yemeni Yemeni News Agency stated that al-Hadhrami discussed with Omar a number of issues, including the logistical measures to complete the exchange of prisoners and detainees, according to what was recently agreed upon in Montreux, Switzerland.

Al-Hadhrami praised the efforts made by the International Committee of the Red Cross to make this humanitarian operation a success, stressing the Yemeni government’s keenness to adhere to the requirements of the agreement and the principle of all for all adopted by the Stockholm Agreement regarding prisoners, detainees and forcibly disappeared persons, including the four included in Security Council resolutions, for this issue. It is of purely humanitarian significance.

For his part, the Red Cross official affirmed the organization’s keenness to fully coordinate to ensure the success of the prisoner exchange process in accordance with the agreement, praising the facilities provided by the Yemeni government and the coordination and cooperation of the local authorities in Aden, Marib and Seiyun, wishing to complete the end of the process and the rest of the stages in the future with success.

The agreement was concluded under the auspices of the United Nations and is expected to include the release of more than 681 Houthi prisoners in exchange for 400 detainees and prisoners in the group’s prisons, including 15 soldiers from the Saudi-led coalition.
